I'm super pumped for the tournament tomorrow. Despite the rain this morning, we are still playing. Our first game is at 9 am and we need to come out strong. A proper warm-up will help and be necessary to get through 3-4 games. So lets be ready to warm up with our cleats on at 8:30 am. Roster shows we'll only be missing 2 people tomorrow. Attendance has been very low almost every week. We have not been able to field a full 7 without asking for subs. That's pretty disappointing when we are suppose to have 19 people on the team and the roster shows that 15 people should have been there on 1/9 when only 5 people showed up. Please don't treat winter league as just another pickup game. A lot of time and resources went into organizing this league. Its not fair to your teammates.

Dogs of Glory,

You have a chance to play against some of the best women ultimate players in the country this Saturday. The women of Showdown would like to scrimmage against winter league players this Saturday, January 23rd at 1:30 pm. They have asked us to nominate 1-2 players from each team to play against them. There will be no gender ratio. There will be 18 women on the Showdown squad. It will be a full game to 15 points, 1 TO per half, 1 floater.

Showdown is Texas' premier elite level Women's club team. It is compromised of women from Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. They finished 5th place at the UPA Club Nationals in October of 2009.

Let me know Saturday morning if you would like to nominate yourself to play. If more than 2 players want to play, then we will think of some creative way to choose. Keep in mind that the scrimmage is at 1:30 which is 30 minutes after winter league. Everyone is encouraged to stay and watch the scrimmage. I believe there will be food but I'm not positive.

Team Dog,

HUC is having its 5th Annual Indoor Tourney on Saturday, Jan 16th. This year there is a chance to have a rec division but they need a few more teams. I think this is a great opportunity to play with your teammates outside of winter league. This is two weekends before Winter League when we have no games scheduled. There is a cap of 10 players per team. Would anyone like to captain a team? I would captain but I might have a family obligation and already committed to another team.

Attendance:
I'll be out of town this weekend as noted on my signup. I plan on attending all games for the rest of the season barring any emergencies or work. Dan Miller will be assisting with captain duties this week. I can't wait to get back to dominating the field with everyone.

Please let the team know via a group post if you are going to have an unscheduled absence. Last week we only had 10 people show up. I understand that the weather might have deterred you from attending but games were on and it turned out to be a beautiful day.

Just a reminder that the HUC winter league is benefiting Toys for Tots this year. The toy drive will be next Saturday on the 19th. You can bring your toy(s) for donation this Saturday if you are not going to make it to winter league on the 19th or you want to check the task off your to-do list early. I hope that everyone can donate a cool toy or two. It would be awesome to be on field 3 for the rest of the season.

Wow. Houston might get an inch or two of snow tomorrow. When is the last time you got to play ulty in the snow?

Games are on for Saturday morning unless you hear differently. Please know it is going to be cold so dress appropriately. I would recommend layers that can be shed as you warm up.

The Winter League theme this year will be the Chinese Zodiac Calendar since we have 12 teams and there are 12 signs/animals. The 11th sign is "Dog" so we need to incorporate that into our team name.

Please post your suggestions to this thread by Monday. We'll vote on Wednesday and submit our team name on Thursday. My Suggestion is "D.O.G. - Death or Glory."

After analyzing week 1 scores, the league director has decided to change the score limit to 13 instead of 15 for each game.

This is just a reminder for some things that you should bring to each Saturday to winter league.

1. Water - more than you think you will need. This way you can share with someone who forgot to bring it. A good rule of thumb is to bring a gallon. There will be no water provided at fields.

2. Sunscreen - It doesn't have to be hot or clear skies for you to get burned. Make sure to clean the sunscreen off your hands before you handle the disc.

3. Snacks - Its not fun playing on an empty stomach.

4. Extra socks - feet feel so much better in a clean pair of socks.
