Charitable Contributions

Every HUC winter league benefits charity. More people involved in winter league means a greater charitable contribution on the part of HUC.

Our winter league charity drive was a huge success. HUC collected nearly 350 backbacks or duffel bags on behalf of The Children's Assessment Center. From the CAC representative:

On behalf of The CAC staff and the children we serve I wanted to thank you all again for the wonderful backpacks! We just finished doing our official count. Our total is 338 backpacks!! WOW, we have so many now!! It is wonderful!! I can’t tell you enough how great it is to have so many on hand for our kids. This truly does make a difference! Thank you so much!!!! We really appreciate your help and support of our children. Thank you for thinking of us this year!!!
In addition to the backpacks, some individuals made monetary contributions to the CAC. Finally, congratulations and thanks to Team 1: Polar Bear Club, for having collected the most backpacks of all with an astounding 128!

For the 2007-2008 season, we are collecting backpacks and duffel bags on behalf of The Children's Assessment Center which provides a safe haven to sexually abused children and their families. The bags are used by children to transport their belongings when they must be removed from risky situations at a moment's notice.

What kinds of backpacks and duffel bags are appropriate for donation?
Both new and gently-used bags are welcome donations. A good rule-of-thumb is to donate a bag that your child would be happy about taking to a friend's house for a sleep over.
When should bags be brought to league for donation?
December 15th January 5th is the day of the winter league charity drive. Hold onto all your bags and backpacks until then so we can make a big ol' pile of 'em in between league games on the 15th 5th.

The winter league team that collects the most backpacks and duffel bags will win a modest prize and, possibly, favorable placement for the league tournament. Moreover, you'll have the pride of knowing you've made the biggest difference to some kids who are having a rough time.

Past charity beneficiaries include the Houston Food Bank and Toys for Tots.

  • In 2007, a truck full of toys was donated to Toys for Tots.
  • In 2006, 2 tons of peanut butter were donated to the Houston Food Bank.
